Chasing Lincoln's killer Blake Remson

Author: James L. Swanson

Historical/ non fiction
pages: 187
Rating: 8.5

For quarter 4 I red the book chasing Lincoln's killer. I dont read often but this book was great. I like western settings and I like American history so I was into this book. What I thought was really cool about the book is that they got pictures of Abraham Lincoln, earlier types of guns, and Lincolns killer John Wilkes Booth aka ''Booth'' and his associates. The photos look very professional and you need to remember that they were taken in the 1860's and I find that amazing how you can convert such old pictures into a brand new book! The book explain in detail Booth's attempts and Lincoln's tragic assassination. I found out that John Booth tried to murder Abraham Lincoln the time before he did kill him. John Booth put together a 6 man gang. In that gang were men called by Herold, Atzerodt, spangler, Arnold, Dayne, and O'laughlin. 1 of the men was Booth's relative. The handful of southern men wanted their president dead over Lincolns side on slavery of African Americans. What I found Ironic is when Booth and his men waited for Lincoln's carriage on the highway to hold it at gun point Lincoln was making a speech at John Booth's hotel called the National! This book shows how tough times were back then and how well of a president he was. Abe Lincoln went through lots of emotional grief when his youngest son died from disease in 1863. His wife Mary told reporters 2 years later that he has not got over the death of his son. Lincoln was shot in back of the head by a early make of the Deringer .44 caliber single-shot muzzle-loading pistol in 1865 at the Ford theatre. When Abraham died on April 15th the country was shocked by the death of the 16th US president. I would recommend this book to the whole grade beacuse it is a great read and is very factual.

Nascar for Dummies

185 PAGES
copyright: 2000
RATING: 7 OUT OF 10

I read the book Nascar for Dummies. It is a informational book. If you already dont know there is a dummies book for just about every subject you can think of. I picked this book because I have an interest in cars and racing. I learned a few things I did not know about Nascar. This book has a lot of obvious information and the book and gets boring after a while. I learned more about racing and the tracks they race on. I would recommend this book to anyone that either likes Nascar or just wants to try reading a different kind of book. The thing I liked about this book is that it reminds me more about summer and I am so eager for summer! Nascar is not just about driving in a circular path for about a couple hundred laps. It is a hard job. It takes patience, good decisions, skillful driving, and putting up with temperatures in the 90's and 100's for hours. This book is an easy read.
